Day of defeat source trenches map5/30/2023 ![]() This means the thompson was simply designed for noobs and rewards bad play such as missing your target completely. The mp40, STG44 and BAR do not have a cone pattern. The cone of fire mechanic that every single person on DOD cries about is only applied to the Thompson. Completely standing still they have a spread (with no patter at all) of about 1 meter within 10 feet distance standing completely still which is a fairly realistic representation of hip firing a pistol at that range. The pistols in DOD:S are 100% rng which is what makes them fairly realistic and entertaining. The recoil of automatics is greater in DOD but the bullet spread is much tighter even for pistols. Then there is not way to improve upon this accuracy since there are no iron sites. I found myself shooting directly at people across the map in DOD and the bullets having a spread of about 1 meter at extreme distances. Even without aiming down sights your crosshairs are gonna be exactly where your rifle bullets land even all the way across the map. The garande would simply be too OP if it did more damage.ĭOD:S rifles are also more accurate. However it still has a higher rate of fire and a proper center mass shot still does a good 88 dmg which leads to alot of 1 hit kills. Then the garande cannot possibly 1 hit kill anyone unless you shoot them the head which i dont agree with. This means the rifle has an even higher skill cap. An arm shot, a stomach shot, a leg shot will not outright kill an opponent. The garande shoots at a higher rate of fire and does more dmg as well and is capable of 1 shotting to a torso.ĭOD:S K-98 requires a torso shot to 1 hit kill. The k98 kills in 1 shot regardless of where you hit your target, even in the foot or hand. Which is interesting because the rifles are actually much stronger in DOD than in DOD:S. On the servers i played there was also no restriction to the ammount of people who could be running around with Thompsons, grease guns. That is right the origional DOD has more people running around with Smgs, Squad Autos, and even semi autos such as the G41/43 and FG42. As well as multiple other classes that offer more options for Automatic weapons. Then of course you have the beyonets which should of never been removed. All weapons, bullet registration, recoil, reloading etc is all very crisp and clean. ![]() Basically the game feels very loose in every single aspect except for the shooting and gunplay. The grenades mechanics are also sluggish and the process of "cooking" grenades is a joke. The sprinting meter and mechanics are extremely primative and not a good representation of your actual stamina. The movement is super sloppy half-life one ice skating. The first thing i notice about DOD is how sluggish it is overall. They where systems developed over decades within both games that add to quality of life and accessability. Both these games are no longer stock and almost every single existing surviving server has mods and gameplay changes so keep this in mind. ![]() Basically DOD is still compared to the origional release of DOD:S which came to life in 2005. I see alot of misunderstandings about both games and a fairly divided community. This is strictly going to be a gameplay comparison. I have only spent one sessions or so playing DOD so i cannot comment on the overall quality of servers. Graphics have never depleted entertainment for me and gameplay trumps all. I am an oldschool gamer i grew up on Half-Life, Counter Strike and Delta Force. I would just like to compare some things because i believe there is some misunderstanding about source. Both games are flawed and both exceed in their respective ways. I have played Day of Defeat Source for over 10 years and i recently finally tried dod for the first time. (I originally meant to post this here rather than source forums.)
